After the signing of Petr Cech from London rivals Chelsea, it seems Arsenal are still on the lookout for more signings. Reports from Liam Corless of The Mirror suggest that the next target on Arsene Wenger’s shopping list is Barcelona youngster Sergi Samper.
Mundo Deportivo claims that Arsenal are willing to pay the buyout clause of around £8.5 million to secure the Barcelona B star. The 20-year-old defensive midfielder is a regular in the Spanish youth teams and has racked up 74 appearances for his club side. Samper is rated very highly by everyone at Barcelona and they will do all that they can to try and retain his services.
Arsenal have a history of snatching away young talents from the Barcelona youth divisions and turning them into stars. Cesc Fabregas and Hector Bellerin are the two most successful players to have been signed but other promising youngsters such as Jon Toral also look as if they can go on to become top players in their own right.
It remains unclear whether Sergi Samper is keen on a move to Arsenal but should the transfer be completed, Arsene Wenger will be glad to have nabbed him after failing twice in the past.
