Monreal is happy at Arsenal

Nacho Monreal reaffirmed his commitment to Arsenal, while speaking in glowing terms about the brand of the club.

Sporadic reports linking Monreal to Athletic Bilbao gained momentum when Arsenal were said to be interested in Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam, but Monreal has moved swiftly to deny these claims.

Speaking to Goal.com amidst reports linking him back to Spain, the 29 year old said: “I’m very happy at Arsenal.

“Of course I enjoyed playing in a lot of the games last season and that is the target again – that is all I can say right now”.

Indeed, it seems that Monreal – having usurped Kieran Gibbs’ left-back berth last season – already has both feet in to preparations for next season.

Upon being asked about the significance of the upcoming FA Community Shield game against Chelsea, he said: “It is a chance to win another trophy at Wembley, which is great for the players and the fans. Of course we did it against Manchester City last year.

“We want to do the same now against Chelsea in a really big game. Of course we have found it difficult against them – they are the great team with a very good manager – but it will also be a difficult game for them.”

Currently on the club’s pre-season friendly tour, Monreal also gave a huge endorsement to the fans of Singapore.

“The reception we get from the fans everywhere we go is amazing to see for the players and we are very happy to be here with them,” he said.

“When you play for Arsenal, you know they are one of the biggest clubs in England but, here in Singapore, you see they are also one of the biggest clubs in the world”.
