Arsenal had some amazing moments during the 2014/15 season, and at times… not so amazing. However, there was one moment in particular that caught my eye, one which I like to call my favourite: Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Manchester City at the Etihad.
Going into the game against Manchester City, Arsenal were labelled as the underdogs and it would seem a miracle for the club to head back home with all three points. Having only acquired seven points out of 48 against the top four sides when playing away, the Gunners were seriously struggling on the road. Fans called for Arsene Wenger to change his tactics when playing against big sides away from home. This was something the boss did on this occasion. Instead of playing attacking and leaving his defence exposed, Wenger decided to absorb the pressure from City and strike when the time was right.
The change of tactic proved successful as Arsenal came out 2-0 winners with Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud the scorers. It was the manner in how we won which really impressed me. The stubborn defence refused to let City’s powerful attacking force through, which led to an impressive victory for the Gunners. This was also the time when Francis Coquelin was finally appreciated for what a class defensive midfielder he could turn out to be in the near future. His interceptions and stopping David Silva from getting in to those pocket of spaces between the midfield proved cruical in guaraneeting Arsenal the three points.
From this result Arsenal could now finally be taken seriously and it also proved that the club has what it takes to consistently beat the big sides away from home. This victory was almost like a turning point for Arsenal and the start of a chain which would see the team collecting 3 points away from home against more big sides.
For those reasons, Arsenal beating Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad was my favourite moment of last season.
