Ox: Cech knows how to win

Arsenal fan favourite Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain believes that above everything else, Petr Cech will bring a ‘winning mentality to the club’ and that is ‘vital’.

21-year-old Chamberlain also described Cech as ‘one of the best ‘keepers I have ever seen’ and admitted to being a keen admirer of the 33-year-old former Chelsea man.

Cech recently signed for Arsenal from Chelsea for a fee reported to be roughly £11m and has a plethora of club and individual titles to his name, including multiple Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League winners medal as Chelsea defeated German giants Bayern Munich in 2012.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “He’s been one of the best goalkeepers in the world since I’ve been watching football. I can’t really remember two goalkeepers who have been better than him.

“To have someone like that sign for us is a great thing and brings a massive boost to the changing room to have that experience and quality coming into the side – it can only help us. The fans are all excited about it and the players feel exactly the same way.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain went on to highlight that despite the fact the Gunners have won the FA Cup in successive seasons recently, they believe now is the time to go further and keep on winning titles, with Cech being the man to possess the winning mentality.

“We’ve had a little bit of success in the last few seasons with the FA Cup but we want to go and replicate that in the league. To have someone who’s done that on numerous occasions in Petr, that winning mentality is massive.

“In terms of our approach at any point in the season, he knows what it takes to win the league. I’m sure he’s going to be a voice who can talk to us and let us know where we need to go and what we need to do to achieve that.

“The group that we’ve got here, everyone’s a really good lad, and I’m sure that everyone’s going to be very open to listening to someone like him, taking everything he says on board. It’s a great signing for us and it’s invaluable what he’s going to bring.”
