Arsenal star Alexis Sánchez will miss the start of the new Premier League season after leading Chile to the Copa America title.
Chile beat Argentina in the final last week on penalties and Sánchez was the one who converted the winning penalty. The Arsenal star chipped the ball beautifully to the left of the net and gifted his side their first ever Copa America in their homeland.
The Chilean hero hasn’t had a full summer break for two years after last year’s World Cup and this year’s Copa America and will be given extra time off to rest ahead of the new season.
Arsène Wenger made the same decision last season when he decided to give Arsenal’s German trio consisting of Per Mertesacker, Mesut Özil, and Lukas Podolski an extended holiday after they have helped their country to global glory.
Sánchez will not be joining his teammates who are due back for pre-season this week. Arsenal’s player of the season will not return until July 27 and will not face Chelsea in the Community Shield, it is unlikely that he will be fit to face West Ham at the Emirates in the first league match.
Fans can expect their team to be without Sánchez until the home game against Liverpool on August 24 as last season’s World Cup winning Gunners did not feature for Arsenal until late August.
