According to reports in Spain, Arsenal have contacted Pedro’s representatives with intentions of securing a deal for the player by the end of the summer.
Pedro’s future at the Camp Nou has been at stake for months due to competition, despite him having signed a new contract that expires in June 2019.
That deal was believed to have set the striker’s buy-out clause at an eye-catching £110million. Such contracts tend to be put in place in order to strengthen the club’s position should they decide to sell the player.
This figure will certainly have declined massively as Pedro struggled to secure a regular place in the side last season. Despite being an option behind first team choices Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar, the Spaniard netted 11 goals for the Catalans who completed the treble, after securing the Spanish league title, and winning both the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League.
The 27-year-old who has won 18 titles at Barcelona has also been linked with Liverpool, but Arsenal appear to be in pole position because of their superior financial resources.
The Gunners’ interest in the player is understandable, with the club reportedly in the market for a new forward, and Pedro has the class and experience needed as they are trying to impose themselves as Premier League title contenders next season.
