Arsenal are interested in signing German international Mario Gotze, according to German media outlet BILD.
Arsene Wenger is thought to be considering the move after Gotze’s agent, Volker Struth, spoke out about the treatment his client has received at Bayern Munich.
Gotze scored 14 goals for Bayern last season but it was not a successful season for the World Cup winner, according to his representative.
After scoring the winner for Germany in last year’s World Cup final, it was thought that the 23-year-old would go on to really establish himself as one of Bayern’s key players, but Struth believes the player is lacking the support from his club.
He told Bild am Sonntag: “Of course I would have liked if Mario had felt more support in one or two situations.
I am fully convinced that when Mario feels this support, it is easier for him to show his incredible potential. Then he is one of the best players in the world.”
It remains to be seen which particular situation Struth was referring to as Gotze made 32 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, five more than the season previous to that.
If Arsenal do firm up their interest in the player, they will have to be prepared to pay a substantial fee for former Borussia Dortmund player.
The player has two years remaining on his current deal.
