William Carvalho is a top target for Arsenal, according to Portuguese media outlet O Jogo.
Carvalho, who has just been named as the player of the tournament in the U21s European Championships, has been linked with numerous clubs in the past.
But according to reports, Arsene Wenger is leading the chase for the Portuguese international.
The 23-year-old shone with calm and composed showings in the Euros and is likely to attract a bid in excess of £20 million.
A defensive midfielder in the stature of Carvalho has long been desired at the Emirates but the emergence of Francis Coquelin is sure to put a grain of doubt in Wenger’s mind before he firms up his interest in the Sporting Lisbon player.
Carvalho broke into the Sporting team after spending time out on loan at Fatima and Cercle Brugge.
He established himself as key player in the team and also made Portugal’s senior squad for last year’s World Cup in Brazil where he appeared in two matches.
