Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is close to going back to West Ham United on loan, according to ESPN FC.
Jenkinson, who was bought from Charlton Athletic in 2011, wanted to break into the Arsenal defence this season after a successful loan spell but with Hector Bellerin’s development and the return of Mathieu Debuchy, Arsene Wenger could not guarantee him first-team football.
Therefore, Arsenal have decided to send the Englishman back out on loan. It initially looked like he was set for a move to Sunderland as Dick Advocaat was keen on securing his services.
But now it seems The Hammers have won the race for the 23-year-old.
Before permitting his loan move, it is understood that Arsenal will hand the right-back a new contract to emphasise Wenger’s belief in him
Jenkinson made a total of 33 appearances for West Ham last season and represented England U21s in the European Championships.
He has one international cap for England.
