# The five most important Arsenal players

There are many different players in the team that are important in their own way; However, there are some ‘must have’ players in the squad that should be straight onto Arsène Wenger’s team sheet, let’s take a look at them.

Firstly, **Laurent Koscielny**. He’s by far the most important player in the Arsenal team. His defensive ability and organisation of the back four is a huge miss whenever he is not on the field. This is understandable, as not only is he the most important player in the squad, he is by a country mile the best defender and we struggle to cope without the Frenchman. His partnership with Per Mertesacker in recent seasons has been superb for Arsenal. Admittedly, with the German’s decline it has put more pressure on Koscielny to perform and the partnership has also taken a knock as a result. This in a way adds to the importance of Laurent Koscielny.

Secondly, **Mesut Özil**; the German Maestro. He [controls games](https://readarsenal.com/2015/06/22/henry-ozil-can-control-a-game/) for Arsenal, keeping us ticking in midfield. Not only this but as expected, he is the most prominent playmaker that we have at the club, this being backed by the fact he has created 130 chances since arriving from Spanish outfit Real Madrid two seasons ago… Of which only 14 have been converted ([WhoScored stats](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/13756/)). He is for me the best player at the club as a whole and he has proven that in many ways this season, really nailing his place in the top five most important Arsenal players.

Thirdly, **Francis Coquelin**; ‘the Police Officer’. His emergence this season has been somewhat a surprise to a large majority of Gunners’ fans. The French defensive midfielder really has proved himself to all of us. He was undoubtedly one of the main reasons why we had a fantastic run towards the end of the season. He is an old fashioned defensive midfielder, no nonsense defending, short passing to the creative players ahead. Coquelin has grown into the defence protecting midfielder Arsenal have needed for years, even getting some fans to question whether we need a new one.

Fourth is **Aaron Ramsey**; the Welsh Magician. He offers so much, a great box-to-box midfielder. Goals, assists, tackling, skill, as well as a great engine. Over the course of this season he hasn’t been as individually good as he was in the 2013/14 season. Nevertheless, he gives so much to the team. For the majority of the season he was played on the right hand side, which damaged his performances in terms of quality but that shows how important his balance is to Wenger and Arsenal. Hopefully we can see more of his importance next season.

Finally, **Alexis Sánchez**; El Niño Maravilla. He arrived from Barça in the summer and has no doubt proven to the fans why Wenger decided to splash the cash on him. 25 goals and 11 assists in 51 appearances this season sums it up. Even though there are some aspects to his game that can be improved, overall, he is a top forward. Goals, pace, skill, the man has pretty much the complete package.
