Jack Wilshere has been fined £40,000 by The Football Association after accepting a charge of misconduct for derogatory chants and comments made against North London rivals Tottenham during Arsenal’s trophy parade following May’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Aston Villa.
The England international has also been severely warned about his conduct in the future, with The FA keen for the incident not to happen again. As a fully-fledged England squad member, Wilshere needs to ensure he portrays himself and the game in a positive light.
Wilshere had already been charged with misconduct following the parade, but had a chance to deny these charges. However, he’s formally accepted them and will pay the hefty £40k per week fine.
During the open top bus parade to celebrate their second consecutive FA Cup trophy, following on from 2014’s success – Wilshere was found to be bringing the game into disrepute with the song “what do we think of Tottenham?…” which is regularly heard at the Emirates.
In theory, this fine should keep him from re-committing, although he was previously picked up and handed a written warning by The FA following the 2014-15 FA Cup win.
