With the Premier League fixtures being released on Wednesday morning, Arsenal were handed a home tie against West Ham United and we decided to take a look at the previous six fixtures between the two sides at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal 3-0 West Ham United, 14th March 2015
This was a routine win for the Gunners in a match that they dominated from the start. Arsenal were looking to consolidate a place in the top 4 and West Ham were harbouring in mid-table. Olivier Giroud scored on the brink of half time, while Aaron Ramsey and a rare goal from Mathieu Flamini in the last 10 minutes made it 3-0 to Arsenal.
Arsenal 3-1 West Ham United, 15th April 2014
On this occasion, Arsenal had to come back from being a goal down after Matt Jarvis headed West Ham in front. Lukas Podolski’s two goals were sandwiched between a clinical Giroud finish as Arsenal ran out 3-1 winners. It was a crucial win for the Gunners as they leapfrogged Everton into 4th place with just four games remaining.
Arsenal 5-1 West Ham United, 23rd January 2013
Another match in which West Ham took the lead, this time through a Jack Collison strike. But Arsenal roared back through Podolski, Giroud twice, Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott. It was a clinical performance from the North Londoners but the match was marred by an injury to Dan Potts; the West Ham player was hurt in a collision and received treatment on the field for 10 minutes before being stretchered off.

A resilient West Ham arrived at the Emirates determined to get something from the game and their match plan was close to being executed. Robert Green made a series of stunning saves to keep the Gunners at bay, but on the 88th minute, he could not stop Alex Song’s low header from close range.

Arsenal took top spot with this win. Brazilian midfielder Denilson scored with a cracking strike after just four minute but defender Thomas Vermaelen was shown a straight red for bringing down Franco in the box. The resulting penalty kick from Allesandro Diamanti was saved my Manuel Almunia. 10 men Arsenal were made to graft in the second half and were awarded a penalty themselves after a Matthew Upson handball… Cesc Fabregas duly despatched.

West Ham managed to leave the Emirates with a point in what was a dire performance from both sides. The Hammers were solid in defence and Arsenal struggled for ideas. Emmanuel Adebayor was guilty of missing Arsenal’s best chances as the Gunners saw their Champions League hopes take a hit.
