Jack Wilshere scored a brilliant brace for his country against Slovenia, bringing a lot of joy to many England and Arsenal fans, but what is the best goal he has scored in his professional football career so far?
We identified the top five, so make sure you let us know your favourite in the poll below.
Shakhtar Donetsk, October 2010
Arsenal thumped the Ukrainian club 5-1 as they closed in on the last 16 of the Champions League for yet another season. Wilshere, who wore the number 19 shirt at the time, started and played the full 90 minutes. He scored the fourth goal of the night after playing a cute one-two with Tomas Rosicky before clipping the ball over Andriy Pyatov.
Marseille, November 2013
Another European match, another win to guarantee a spot in the last 16 for Arsenal. This goal did not take long to come for the England international as he managed to find the net in just 28 seconds. Wilshere was released on the right hand side and he progressed in to the box before cutting in on his left and striking an angled finish in to the top corner. Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda’s despairing dive was in vain as the shot was unstoppable. Arsenal went on to win the match 2-0 and the second goal was scored by Wilshere too.
Manchester City, September 2014
Arsenal were seeking an equaliser against their title rivals early in the season and dispossessed City in the middle of the pitch and moved the ball up the field swiftly. Aaron Ramsey played the ball on to Wilshere who progressed in to the box, glided past Clichy and nonchalantly lobbed the ball over the onrushing Joe Hart with his weaker foot. It was a brilliantly finished team goal.
West Brom, May 2015
Arsenal’s last match of the season was against West Bromwich Albion. Theo Walcott scored a hat-trick as he returned to full fitness but it was Wilshere who won the plaudits with his brilliant volley. The number 10, who himself was returning after a long spell out with an ankle injury, was standing 20 yards away from goal as the bouncing ball was laid off to him by defender Gabriel Paulista and then Wilshere, with very little back-lift, thumped a sweetly-struck shot into the top corner.
It was so good that it was voted as the Match of the Day Goal of the Season. The goal also made Wilshere the first player to win consecutive Goal of the Season awards.
Norwich, October 2013
This was one of the best team goals you’ll ever see. Any description of the goal will not do justice to it but I’m going to go ahead anyway. Cazorla moved in from the left and played a one-two with Wilshere, the Spaniard immediately moved the ball on to Giroud who had his back to the goal in the penalty area; his deft touch found Wilshere and within the blink of an eye, their one-two left the Norwich City defence bewildered and found the 23 year-old free in the box. Wilshere then had the easy job of finishing into the bottom corner past John Ruddy. A deserved winner of the Goal of the Season award.
