Despite Porto President Pinto da Costa claiming that Jackson Martinez had chosen AC Milan, it appears that Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have been thrown a lifeline in their bid to lure the Colombian to the Emirates Stadium.
The soon-to-be-ex-Porto forward told Portuguese newspaper A Bola: “I’m as close to Milan as I am to other clubs.
“In the next few days I will decide my future.”
Martinez saying this does not mean he will not be joining Milan, with the Italian giants still clear favourites for his signature, but it could mean that the Porto forward, who is certain to leave the club, has offers from other teams, possibly including Arsenal, who have been interested in his signature for some months.
The 28-year-old is amongst the most sought after forwards in European football and is believed to cost in the range of £22-25m, a reasonable fee for a forward with a fantastic goal return for a great side.
