It’s advantage Arsenal in the race for Petr Cech’s signature, according to Chelsea goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon. According to Lollichon, Arsenal’s title ambitions and the fact that they are a London club makes them most suited to the Czech Republic international. The Chelsea man also admits that the West Londoner’s are resigned to losing the ‘keeper. In an interview with RMC, he said:
“We (Chelsea) started to prepare for the next season in December. Because we knew that the situation cannot last. It’s great for the club (to have two keepers such quality), but it cannot last. For a boy like Cech, on the bench, it’s hard.
“His family like England. And a player is happy when his family is happy. He want to stay in England, but I don’t know where are the discussions. The Premier League is his primary objective. But it will also depends on the conditions.
“The advantage is that Arsenal is a top club, with a philosophy that pleases him and that is in London. It is a base for consideration. Tottenham? I do not think they have the same ambitions as Arsenal. Petr wants to break a record for the clean sheets in the Premier League.”
Arsenal will receive further encouragement from the fact that Cech turned a move to French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) as he believes that a move to Ligue 1 will be seen as a step down in his view.
“Much is said about him at PSG. Even last year, we spoke about that. Obviously it would be an added value. Sirigu is a good keeper, but Cech is still above. But the problem is that when you have evolved in England, League 1 seems light compared to what Petr has experienced.”
