Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has vowed to never move to Premier League rivals Manchester City and stated that his future will be at Arsenal.
City want to increase their quota of home-grown players and are targeting young English talent; reportedly including Jack Wilshere and have already had a bid rejected for Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling.
Wilshere was quick to reject any links to the Manchester club: “I definitely would not go somewhere just because I am a home-grown player. I’d want to be wanted by a club, I want to be wanted by Arsenal.
“I have grown up at Arsenal, and as long as Arsenal want me, then I am happy.”
Wilshere endured further injury problems last season and missed five months of action, but managed to return in time for the last few weeks of the season and played a part in the FA Cup final. Last November, the 23 year-old was playing some of his best football before being tackled heavily by Paddy McNair. He believes that the injury was a consequence of his style of play.
“When I was injured, a few people said I should change my game – should get it and pass it. It did go through my head, I thought, ‘Maybe they are right, maybe I should’. but as soon as I came back and I got on the ball, I just wanted to run with it.
“There are things I can do… you look at the best dribblers in the world, Messi and Iniesta, it seems to stick to their foot, so I can work on that when I am dribbling. But I am never going to change my game.
“You have to learn from your mistakes and the only way you are going to evolve as a person and as a footballer is by making mistakes and learning from them.”
Wilshere also had something to say about the pictures of him with a cigarette.
“I have said it before and some people don’t believe me, but I’m not a smoker,” he said of being snapped having a puff on a night out and then at a pool party in Las Vegas last summer.
“It’s tough, tough, but honestly, I don’t smoke. It was a mistake I made on a night out. I definitely regret it. I made the same mistake twice. But I’m not a smoker.”
