English forward Theo Walcott has claimed that the Emirates Stadium is fast becoming a fortress.
Since losing 3-1 to Aston Villa on the opening day of the 2013/14 season, the Gunners have lost only two of their last 37 matches at the Emirates. Walcott believes that this level of consistency can lead to more glory for the Gunners and replicate past triumphs. The England international told the club website:
“Highbury was a fantastic arena – it was so passionate and everyone was together.
“We’ve been at the Emirates for nine years and that’s starting to be like a big fortress and starting to feel like Highbury was.”

Walcott joined Arsenal in 2006 and has seen the club regularly finish amongst the top four places and believes that their presence in Europe’s most prestigious competition is clear indication of a great club.
“The fact that we always qualify for the Champions League has never changed and that’s great. But it’s been a long time coming. It’s a massive club – it always will be a big club and I think it’s getting bigger and bigger.
“The club is going to move on from where it was. We had some fantastic years just before I came here and I think we are going to start to get those back, definitely.”
