Arsenal right back and ex-West Ham loanee Carl Jenkinson could be set to rejoin the East London side on another season-long loan.
With competition in the form of Calum Chambers, Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy at the Gunners, Wenger has decided that he doesn’t want to lose Jenkinson, but cannot accommodate his place in the current squad.
In early May, the Arsenal boss had this to say on the 23 year-old: “I met Carl this week to speak about his future.
“We will sit down together at the end of the season, but my target is to keep him here at the club.
“He has had a great season for me and he has moved forward and overall he has gained a lot of confidence. The decision I have to make is do I bring him back now or does he need one more year now to play in the Premier League. It is not decided yet.”
Wenger went on to say that he would be open to loaning Jenkinson again: “I have to decide [whether to loan him] at the end of the season.
“He needs experience. Carl is a young, very promising right back with top quality and he had a good year where he has really moved forward. It’s important that he has a good chance to play if he comes back.”
While West Ham are interested in bringing the Arsenal star, currently on international duty with the u21 squad, to the Boleyn Ground, the Daily Mail have reported that demands for a £2m loan fee could deter the Irons from their interest.
Jenkinson signed for Arsenal from Charlton Athletic in 2011 for a fee of £1m and has gone on to make 57 appearances, before being loaned out to West Ham for the duration of the 2014/15 season.
