Ozil: We can win the Premier League

Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil believes that the Gunners are capable of mounting a serious title challenge, whilst believing that Arsenal can get closer to tasting UEFA Champions League glory.

The 26 year-old German, entering his third season as an Arsenal player, cited injuries as the reason the North London side were unable to compete competetively last season. “We had bad luck with injuries this season, but next season we can win the Premier League and go further in the Champions League,” he said.

Arsenal, despite retaining the FA Cup and being the only club to have won the competition 12 times, were unable to fulfill their primary objective of winning the Premier League, and were knocked out in the last 16 by Arsene Wenger’s former club, AS Monaco.

Reflecting on a ‘successful year’, Ozil said: “My best moment [of the season] was the first game back after my injury against Stoke [in January]. The fans cheered a lot when I was brought on. That was a brilliant feeling and helped me a lot.

“From then on I understood; no matter what happened, the club and the fans are always with me.”

Arsenal have failed to win the Premier League ever since they famously won it in 2004 without losing a single game and while the fanbase is not expectant of Arsenal winning it again in that fashion, there is the sense that Wenger has a squad well-equipped to mount a long overdue sustained title assault on current champions Chelsea.
