Arsenal are preparing a €40 million swoop for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 27-year-old has been repeatedly linked to a switch to the Emirates (following back-to-back FA Cup triumphs) and talks appeared to have advanced between the respective clubs.
After 18 goals in 31 league starts, as well as a further seven in the Europa League, the Argentine has attracted interest from a wealth of European clubs, including Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Nonetheless, Arsene Wenger’s side appear to possess an edge, and are in advanced contract negotiations with his agent, Nicolas Higuain, according to the Italian newspaper.

They also claim the Gunners looked into the possibility of securing the signature of Higuain two seasons ago, but little came of the opportunity. The North London outfit could look to persuade the Argentine with the prospect of Champions League football, after Napoli missed out on qualification after a disappointing fifth placed finish.
Despite the potential offer from Arsenal, Napoli are expected to demand a minimum offer of €50 million to commence negiotations, while Aurelio De Laurentiis expects the number nine could even be valued at €60 million euros.
Higuain spent six years at Real Madrid prior to his move to Italy in 2013.
