Arsenal are ready to rival Inter in the pursuit of Monaco’s £25 million midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia according to reports in The Mirror.
The French international is just 22-years of age and has caught the eye of some of Europe’s elite clubs with a string of impressive performances in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
It is believed that Inter Milan have already enquired about the player, but Monaco have put a £25 million price tag on their prized asset. Monaco signed him just two years ago from Sevilla.
Arsene Wenger knows the player well, and has been tracking him from his Lens days. From Lens, Kondogbia moved onto Sevilla before finding himself at the club which dumped Arsenal out of the Champions League in such stunning circumstances.
Francis Coquelin has been a revelation for the Gunners during the second half of the campaign, but whether he can keep that going for an entire season remains to be seen. Kondogbia is a player of much better quality and he would add even more steel to the Arsenal midfield.
Arsenal are expected to make enquiry about the player in the coming days and very strongly considering a bid for the 22-year old. Arsene Wenger remains keen on Morgan Schneiderlin but could be put off by the fee the Saints are demanding.
Don’t be fooled into thinking Kondogbia is just a pure destroyer; he’s a complete midfield powerhouse. Seeing him live this season, he reminded me of a young Patrick Vieira. And sure, we hear that a lot, but the power and pace at which this guy can shift is scary. He covers every blade of grass and has very good quality on the ball.
Signing Kondogbia would improve our team dramatically and would be another piece in the puzzle towards the coveted Premier League title.
