# Wilshere is wanted & Szczesny to start

Ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final, Arsene Wenger has urged a reminder to Jack Wilshere that the club standing behind him throughout the injury problems is a clear signal of intention for the 23 year-old’s long-term future at the club.

The England international has been linked with cash-rich Manchester City of late, but has three years left on his current deal and claims it would hurt if Arsenal wanted to sell him.

Wilshere: “I would be hurt if they sold me. I want Arsenal to want me. So if they didn’t want me, it would hurt. It would be strange playing for another club. I went to Bolton on loan and that was strange.

“I feel like I’m ready to play now and that’s not going to change. I want to play more minutes before the end of the season and then I’ll have to wait until next season and see what the bosses plans are for me, for the team.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger replied to remarks from reporters that Wilshere is irking for a new contract: “What do you mean by that? Is it a contract story? Is it? He knows he is wanted.

“I made Jack Wilshere start at 17 years of age. That means that you cannot show a bigger desire of wanting a player and we have always extended his contract and we have been very patient with all his injuries. At some stage I think he must feel wanted.”

“We always stood by him through every difficult moment.

“Does that mean we want him to stay here for a longer period? Yes, as we would like to benefit from his talent now. He has not played since November, Jack. That is five or six months.”

Wilshere will certainly be hoping to start in the FA Cup final after making a return from injury, and another man who will be looking to play is Wojciech Szczesny, who has been a feature in this season’s campaign.

In 2013/14, former Arsenal man Lukasz Fabianski was the number one throughout the cup competition, with Szczesny appearing regularly in the Premier League, but since being dropped in the Premier League for David Ospina, the Polish stopper has become the new cup regular and is widely expected to remain in goal at Wembley on Saturday.

Szczesny, hoping to play his part in the final this year claimed: “I did get a medal last season but it hasn’t got the full flavour if you didn’t play in the final. This year I’m hoping I can claim that trophy and be satisfied.

“Last year it was a straightforward decision. Lukasz played throughout the competition and I knew he would play in the final.

“This year I only missed the first game and have played the rest, but it’s the manager’s decision.”
