The FA Cup final is almost here! Arsenal will take on Aston Villa for the chance to retain the famous trophy. To wet your appetite for the game, here are the top five Arsenal goals in FA Cup history.
#5 – Tony Adams vs. Tottenham Hotspur – 1993 semi-final
A year prior to this encounter, Spurs knocked out Arsenal in this round and the Gunners were out for revenge. With 10 minutes to go, it looked destined for extra-time, before Mr Arsenal climbed above everyone and put Arsenal into the final. Revenge against Spurs is sweet. Revenge against Spurs in an FA Cup semi-final is even sweeter.
#4 – Aaron Ramsey vs. Hull City – 2014 final
The goal that ended Arsenal’s 10-year wait for a trophy. Yaya Sanogo causing chaos in the box, before Olivier Giroud backheels to Aaron Ramsey who toe-pokes it home. Glorious.
#3 – Ray Parlour vs. Chelsea – 2002 final
‘It’s only Ray Parlour…’, the famous line of commentary from Tim Lovejoy on that day in Cardiff. Ray Parlour, the Romford Pele, broke free from midfield and unleashed a shot past Carlo Cudicini. Arsenal went on to complete the double during the week.
#2 – Charlie George vs. Liverpool – 1971 final
Charlie George breaks free and hits a peach past Liverpool to win the 1971 final. Another year Arsenal completed the double.
#1 – Alan Sunderland vs. Manchester United – 1979 final
One of the most famous goals in Arsenal history. Alan Sunderland pokes it home to send the cup back to North London.
