Despite recent reports linking Aaron Ramsey with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona, the Welshman has insisted that it hasn’t entered his mind and his sole concern is with Arsenal and the FA Cup final.
Ramsey has been in sensational form for the Gunners, with impressive goal scoring performances a particular highlight of the 24 year-old’s stunning couple of years.
After hearing the reports linking Ramsey with Barcelona, Wales boss Chris Coleman insisted that the Arsenal midfielder is good enough for Luis Enrique’s side: “He’s already playing for Arsenal, who play a similar style [to Barcelona]. He’s playing at the top of the Premier League and Champions League every season, so ability-wise when you see the best of Aaron Ramsey… at his best is he good enough for Barcelona? Yes he is, at his best.”
However, the man who scored the winner for Arsenal in last season’s FA Cup final insisted that the reports have not once entered his mind.
“That’s just something that’s been written in the papers. I’m focused on Arsenal and on winning the FA Cup. That sort of news doesn’t affect me or enter my mind.
When quizzed on whether he would like to join the La Liga champions, Ramsey said: “Not at this time. I’m focusing on the FA Cup, that’s what appeals to me at this time.”
With questions about his Arsenal future out of the way, Ramsey began to discuss his excitement at the prospect of further silverware on Saturday, but claimed Arsenal must approach the game maturely and with the right attitude.
“I think in the past we’ve been a bit too naive, maybe tried to play the way we like to play a bit too much, and we leave ourselves a bit too open in the game.
“Against that quality, if you do lose the ball high up the pitch they’ll punish you and we were guilty of that for a couple of years.
“But I think this year we’ve been a lot more solid as a team, we haven’t given them so much space to play and we’ve been quite compact, and we’ve managed to take our chances at the other end.
“I think that’s a massive step forward from last year. The only thing I think we need to do is get that consistency throughout the season to really challenge for the Premier League.”
