According to The Express, Arsenal are closing in on a £24.7 million deal to sign Porto striker Jackson Martinez.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly a big fan of the striker and will look to him to strengthen the squad in a bid to compete for the title next season.
Reports in The Express claim Arsenal have begun talks with the Portuguese club over the player and a deal could be close. Liverpool are also rumoured to be interested.
Porto president Nuno Pinto da Costa has admitted it may be tough to keep the striker, saying: “He’s a player we want to keep, but we cannot stop someone paying the clause.
“Jackson went on vacation and so when he returns we will try to renew his deal just like last year.”
The player’s release clause is thought to be just shy of £25 million, which in the current climate doesn’t represent terrible value.
Martinez adds pace to Arsenal’s attack and despite all the good that Olivier Giroud provides, Jackson Martinez can provide the side with more cutting edge upfront and many believe he would take the club to the next level.
