Cesc who? There’s a new pass master in the Premier League and his name is Santi Cazorla!
Despite a goalless draw which was labeled as “disappointing” by most fans, Wednesday was a night where records were broken. Arsenal Spanish playmaker broke 3 season records against Sunderland, two of which were held by former Gunner Cesc Fabregas.
Santi Cazorla broke Fabregas’ season best record for the number of accurate passes recorded in a single match this season.
The Arsenal star managed 155 against Sunderland, breaking Fabregas’ 144 against West Brom, a record which had remained unbroken since the opening weekend of the season.
Cazorla also beat Fabregas for the total number of touches in one game, touching the ball more than 150 times in the same game, a Premier League best that was only managed by two other players this season: Fabregas at 174 versus West Brom and 162 versus Aston Villa, and Arsenal’s Welshman Aaron Ramsey who touched the ball 156 times against Sunderland.
These were not the only records broken against Sunderland. Santi did not just settle for passing the ball around in his own box: Stats show that 86 of the Spaniard’s passes were in the final third, beating David Silva’s previous best.
Teammate Aaron Ramsey also got himself on the list with 68 final third passes that granted him the 3rd spot.
