English forward Theo Walcott praised Arsenal’s sense of teamwork and claimed that the team’s unity is what helped the Gunners snatch an important late point from Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The speedy forward came off the bench mid-way into the second half and scored Arsenal’s equaliser, a cross that ricocheted off Tyler Blackett and went straight into the net, misleading Victor Valdes who reacted too early.
The 26-year old forward is happy that Arsenal’s Old Trafford worries are far behind them, and has credited the progress of the side to the fact that they have anchored their presence as a “unit”.
“We prepared well and we’ve forgotten about all the disappointments we’ve had in Manchester,” he told Arsenal Player. “This year has been a massive change in the whole team from the defense all the way through.
“We’ve managed to be a lot more of a unit as well and that’s helped in the big games at times.”
Walcott was disappointed by the team’s form in the first half but praised the second half, in which Arsenal dominated by playing the quick football everyone was accustomed to.
“The first-half tempo was a bit slow and we didn’t really get going but the second half was what we’ve been doing all season. We were playing bright, quick football and it worked.”
“The first half was very disappointing and all the players sensed that coming in at half-time,” the forward added. “There had to be a complete change and it felt like there was straight away.
“I felt that we were very strong in the last 30 minutes, very fit. You could sense that it was coming because we kept on going and we could’ve even got the win in the end.
Despite Arsenal not winning, Walcott was pleased with the overall performance and settled for one point. He also praised the fans and seems to be very optimistic about the final three games.
“It was important not to lose the game. It’s such a fantastic arena to play in, our fans were fantastic and we’re going to go into the last three games very positive.”
