Arsenal put on red alert over Petr Cech

Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho spoke to talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil and claimed that despite his desire to hold on to goalkeeper Petr Cech, the decision is not in his hands.

Cech has been dethroned by Thibaut Courtois in goal for Chelsea with the young Belgian putting in a string of impressive performances in his debut Premier League season.

We recently brought you news that a move for the Czech keeper hinged solely on Roman Abramovich’s sign off and with Mourinho admitting he is powerless, reports will continue to gain traction.

Mourinho: “If it’s in my hands he would never go, would never go to big clubs with fantastic teams. Big candidates to win the Premier League. I would never let him go.

“But it’s not in my hands. My perfect scenario is that he stays with us, I think he belongs to this club, this club belongs to his history and to his life, too.

“He is a fantastic keeper, fantastic dressing room and squad man. I tried to prove the respect I have for him. I played him in the cups, gave him matches in the Premier League.

“I can imagine that a 32 or 33 year old keeper feels young and feels the passion to play every game.”

With Arsene Wenger reportedly in the market for a new, reliable number one, and Cech himself interested in a move away to find first team football, a move would certainly make sense for both parties if a fee can be agreed.

Cech signing could signal the end of Wojciech Szczęsny’s Arsenal career, with the Polish stopper falling out of favour after a number of errors and off the field issues.

Do you want to see Cech sign for Arsenal? Do you think we need him between the sticks?
