Arsenal are reportedly lining up a surprise bid for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.
After firing Bournemouth to the Premier League with 23 goals, Wilson has attracted interest from a whole host of clubs, including champions Chelsea.
Wilson only joined the Cherries last row but after a fantastic debut season, but it looks as if he could be on the move for the second summer in a row. The England under-21 international has been watched by scouts of Tottenham, West Ham, Southampton, Aston Villa, Swansea and Crystal Palace this season.
According to ESPN, Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley has seen Wilson play five times this season and likes what he sees. Rowley has given Wenger rave reviews about the striker and it is thought that Arsenal are considering a bid for the Englishman.
Olivier Giroud has had a very good season, and it is thought Arsene Wenger could look to bring someone in to supplement his other strikers, as opposed to displace them. Wilson would add decent depth to the Gunners’ squad and would also boost the club’s home-grown quota.
Despite the interest in the player, it is thought that Bournemouth will look to keep the player and with their ability to pay relatively high wages you wouldn’t bet against them doing so. In these situations, it’s often the case that the player stays around for one more season before moving on.
Another point to note: If Arsenal really are interested in players like Wilson, then does it mean they made a mistake in selling Benik Afobe? Could he not have done what Wilson would do?
