As the season comes to an end I like to look ahead. Chelsea won it, and we all know about it, so enough of that. The Arsenal fans can now look ahead of the FA Cup final against Aston Villa, as well as grabbing the second place in the league. We didn’t play well last night against Swansea at home. We had plenty of chances of putting the game to bed, but we didn’t manage to do so. Swansea didn’t show any sign of desire of winning the match but got that lucky goal. Sloppy defending and Gomis won the match for the swans like he did earlier this season. Zero points and that was that.
Anyway, let’s forget that one. We got Manchester United away at Old Trafford this week so the lads better get some rest. Arsenal got a good chance of getting three points from the Devils if we put our mind to it. I don’t want it to be another case of us playing the football and Manchester scoring the goals. We have to be victorious in our mind, because that’s where you win a game against Manchester United. We have the quality players, and we have been much better than Manchester United this season. But still, we have that ghost in our heads. As soon as we play against them it’s like nothing else matters, Manchester United could be at the bottom of the league and we on the top, and I would still fancy a Manchester win. That has to end this weekend. We need to prove that we are the real deal now. Arsenal need to show up. Mesut Özil needs to show up for the game. Alexis needs to show up for the game. And Giroud needs to show up for the game. All eleven players need to show up, Monsieur Wenger none the least.
We won against Manchester United earlier this season in the FA Cup. That means a lot mentally. We now have travel up to Manchester and show them once again.
No league title this season, but I am still very optimistic about the team. During the last months we have been playing great, like champions. And that needs to continue the last three coming games. Two wins in the league could get us the second place and a win against Aston Villa May 30th at Wembley would result in silverware. A second place in the league and an FA Cup would count as a good season.
Hopefully Wenger will open the treasure chest this summer and buy the right players. Just look what Mourinho did before the season. He bought Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Felipe Luis as well as Thibaut Courtois back from loan very, very early last summer, and look what it got him. As well as getting Nemanja Matic in the team last season in January, this is what won Chelsea the league this year. You need those vital players in your team. You need a strong spine. You need a Terry and a Cahill in the back, as well as a Matic and a Fabregas in the midfield and a goal scoring machine like Diego Costa up front.
Arsenal is not far from that. If we make the right signings this summer we will challenge for the league title next season. That is a fact. I’m not going to suggest which players we need to get, hence there is a reason why I’m not a manager.
Now, let’s get this league over with and bring home the FA Cup.
