Arsenal are reportedly lining up a shock move for Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Mario Götze in a deal that would surpass £30 million.
Whilst it initially sounds very unrealistic, many German outlets are reporting that the player could be on the move this summer. Götze is a sublime player but has failed to hit his high standards under new manager Pep Guardiola. The Spanish manager could be willing to let him go if he can replace him with another top level talent.
Arsenal had made approaches for the World Cup winner during his long spell at Borussia Dortmund but were trumped by Bayern Munich. It looks like Arsene Wenger is keen on re-igniting that interest, according to The Daily Express, and could make Götze his marquee signing this summer.
If Götze becomes available, Arsenal won’t be the only English team interested. Chelsea are reportedly fans of the player and Manchester United have been linked with his services for years. There were murmurings of Bayern Munich being interested in flop Angel Di Maria so a swap deal involving the two could make sense.
However, it must be said that despite his slight struggles, Götze will probably end up staying at the Allianz Arena. Pep Guardiola likes to have a big squad, especially after the recent injury struggles of some of his players.
It can’t hurt to dream though…
