Arsenal have sprung a number of surprises this season both on and off the pitch and one of the more welcomed surprises has been the emergence of super-talent Hector Bellerin.
The 20 year-old Spanish right back has been at the club since 2011 and has made his major breakthrough after a successful and extremely impressive short loan spell at Premier League new boys Watford last season.
Bellerin’s chance came due to a number of injuries to full backs Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and Nacho Monreal meaning that the 20 year-old was made to start away at Borussia Dortmund, a tough night that proved a great learning curve for the young talent.
In similar fashion to Bellerin, Arsenal struggled in the early stages but have been the form team of the Premier League since the turn of the year and as such have won 18 games out of a possible 22 in all competitions since the impressive 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium against former champions Manchester City.
Bellerin described the victory as the turning point in Arsenal’s season, with the club now third in the league with a game in hand.
“The turning point was probably the Manchester City game,” Bellerin described.
“Playing at Manchester City and winning 2-0 convincingly showed that it wasn’t just luck, it was because the team worked hard and we knew what we were doing.
“We realised that we could do good things after that, and since then we’ve played well every single game as a group with a lot of solidarity in the team. The team went straight up and showed that we’re not going to drop.
“After that game the boss told us that we still had a chance to fight for the title. It was a bit late but we never looked away from it. Now it’s a bit late and we understand that but we realised how we can do great things together.
“We can finish second place now and to be able to not play the Champions League qualifier is a weight off our shoulders as well. We need to get as many points as we can, starting with Swansea, and try to get the three points.”
Arsenal face Swansea City at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night, we will be bringing you a preview to the game on Sunday.
