On Monday night, Arsenal beat Hull City at the KC Stadium in fantastic manner. Quick, incisive, skilful and clinical are four words how best to describe the performance and the man at the heart of it all, Mesut Ozil agrees.
The German was in cruise control for most of the game and put in a stunning performance, controlling the midfield along with Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Aaron Ramsey.
Ozil said: “We played outstanding football, especially in the first half.
“We really deserved to be 3-0 up and as I mentioned, in the first half our performance was top class. Hull City didn’t have a chance.
“We disrupted their play really early on and that forced their mistakes. Alexis made the game easier for us with his goals. We had more space as a result and they had to become more open.”
The classy Germany praised the counter-attacking performance put in by the Gunners and claimed that a big strength of the team is in their pace to catch opponents on the break.
“We know that one of our strengths is on the break because we have some really fast attacking players and I want to praise the team again for that.”
In our five things article, we noted that it was clear Wenger asked the side at half time to calm things down and hold on to what they had and the 26 year-old World Cup winner confirmed just that.
“In the second half, we wanted to hold the result and conceded a goal. But ultimately we’re really happy with the result.
It was clear that the game against Hull was already in the back of Ozil’s mind, with Monday night’s fixture against Swansea already the new focus on his agenda.
“We had many opportunities and maybe we should have won by more goals but the main thing is the three points and now we’ll turn our focus to the next game.”
Arsenal face Swansea City at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night as Wenger’s men look to win their 22nd game of the Premier League season.
