Arsenal’s midfield magician Mesut Özil has seen his strong performances during the month of April rewarded with the award of PFA Fans’ Player of the Month.
The World Cup winning German played a vital part in Arsenal’s results during April, with his best performance coming against Liverpool as he scored a magnificent free kick against and also bagged an assist in the 4-1 victory.
Özil was also impressive in Arsenal’s 1-0 victory at Turf Moor, a game that the German took under his control as the Gunners took another three points.
During April, Arsenal were victorious on three occasions, including an FA Cup semi-final game that saw the current holders leap into successive finals.
The £42.5m signing had come under scrutiny due to his first season in the Premier League where he failed to settle in immediately and reach the heights expected of him, but the 26 year-old has impressed since returning from a lengthy injury that saw him out of action for three months.
Arsene Wenger discussed Özil last week and praised the midfielder for his performances this season.
“People questioned Özil – a player that is the centre of our game and also makes other people play,” Wenger said. “The real players are those who take the qualities of their partners – Özil is one like that. He is naturally generous.”
