# Arsene Wenger- ‘Logic reason Arsenal opted against Cesc’

Ex Gunner Cesc Fabregas is set to make his return to his former club today as Chelsea travel to the Emirates stadium in the clash of London’s best clubs.

Much speculation was made of Arsene Wenger’s decision not to re-sign his former midfield captain, with Fabregas later signing for champions elect Chelsea in a move that got many speaking.

When quizzed on why Wenger opted against signing Fabregas for a second time, the Frenchman said: “Congestion.

“We have \[Alexis\] Sanchez and Ozil but also \[Jack\] Wilshere in this position, \[Alex \[Oxlade-Chamberlain, \[Aaron\] Ramsey. All offensive players. When you have to spend £35 million to £40 million for a position where you already have players, you have to question what is the logic.”

Wenger also cited German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil as a similar player to the former Arsenal captain, describing the pressure placed upon him to sign a similar creative midfielder.

“When a big player goes from your club, everyone says you have to buy another one with the same qualities. Once he has gone you have brought another one with the same qualities, he wants to come back and it is not obvious to spend so much on a position that is exactly the same. Where does Cesc play today? Behind the striker. Where does Ozil play? Behind the striker.”

The Arsenal Manager was full of praise for Ozil, rubbishing any criticisms of his £42.5m signing.

“People questioned Ozil – a player that is the centre of our game and also makes other people play,” Wenger said. “The real players are those who take the qualities of their partners – Ozil is one like that. He is naturally generous.”

Arsenal face Chelsea at the Emirates stadium today, with the Gunners looking to move back into second place after being knocked into third by current champions Manchester City yesterday.
