The season is unfolding delightfully for the Gunners: They’ve reached their highest position as they are second in the league and look well equipped to retain their FA Cup title. Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez are back to their top form and are clicking beautifully on the field while Olivier Giroud is turning into the top striker Arsenal have been missing ever since Robin Van Persie left. To top it off, the likes of Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby and Mathieu Debuchy are fit and back in full training.
It is clear that Arsenal’s mentality towards big games has evolved. They have beaten City at the Etihad, got their first win since 2006 at the Old Trafford, and have proven that the Emirates is a fortress when they demolished Liverpool and beat them 4-1 this past Saturday.
Arsenal’s Chilean superstar praised the team and hailed Arsenal as a team capable of winning titles.
“We have the right team and the right players to do it, we have everything to collect silverware.”
Do we? Do Arsenal really have the right players to win a Premier League and/or a Champions league title next season?
Here are a few players that could really help the Gunners push on next season:
Petr Cech
Despite Ospina’s good performances, I still think Arsenal could use a strong goalkeeper with an intimidating personality. When I think of such a keeper, Cech comes to mind.
Cech is not your usual Wenger signing. He is 32 and wouldn’t come for cheap as he is valued at £10 million. Nonetheless, Petr Cech could be Arsenal’s game-changer, bringing a certain steel that has always been missed in the Arsenal locker room. I think the boss should match the player’s valuation and bring him to North London. The accomplished goalkeeper would add a fear factor, and his experience is certainly a factor welcomed at Arsenal. Cech would contribute to an even more polished performance from the elite players and would also push the young Gunners to step up and perform.
Morgan Schneiderlin
I am a big fan of Coquelin and I believe he is taking the very same footsteps Vieira once took. However, what would Arsenal do if he got injured? With Flamini most likely packing his bags at the end of this season and Arteta’s inconsistency due to injuries, the Gunners are in desperate need of signing a defensive midfielder.
Schneiderlin looks like a good addition for the squad. Southampton manager, Ronald Koeman has admitted the player could leave the Saints in the summer.
“It will be hard when there is real interest in the player,” Koeman said. “It is up to the player but I think Morgan is happy at the moment.”
According to the Guardian, the club will only listen to offers in excess of £25 million.
The former Strasbourg man would greatly strengthen Wenger’s midfield options and would make Arsenal look a lot more solid in defence. He’s been excellent all season long and would definitely be an asset for the team.
Paulo Dybala
With Theo Walcott most likely heading for the exit, Paulo Dybala could be the ideal replacement on the top right-hand side of the pitch.
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has claimed on Italian radio station Radio Marte that Arsenal have joined Juventus in making an official offer for Dybala’s services.
If Arsenal can can beat Juve and secure a deal with the Palermo star, they would have gotten their hands on one of the most exciting young talents in world football. The young Argentine has bagged in 13 goals and assisted 7 in 29 games. His trickery, pace, and instinctive finishing would add a lot to this Arsenal team. Labeled as the “new Sergio Agüero” by Zamparini, Dybala would certainly make the Gunners look more threatening and would have in hand in Arsenal’s clinching of a league and/or European title.
