Arsene Wenger has talked up the ability of young stars Hector Bellerin and Callum Chambers following their impressive contributions this season. Wenger belives that the young Spaniard in particular has shown great personality since coming to the club in 2011.
“I’m surprised how quickly he has settled in and that’s down to personality, I’m convinced that he has adapted very well. He had some difficult starts, at Borussia Dortmund, but he has recovered very well and has improved permanently.“
Bringing Englishman Chambers into the equation, the Boss said:
“He and Calum Chambers are only 20 years old now and they have both had outstanding first seasons together. Bellerin came at the age of 16, so I consider him as a real Arsenal player.”
Wenger also spoke of the much improved Olivier Giroud, hailing his ‘outstanding form’ since his return from injury and his desire to improve:
“He has been in outstanding form since he came back,” the manager said. “He has improved the quality of his game and we have plenty of strikers. I believe that the target of everybody when you wake up in the morning is to be better, to make sure that at night you are better than the day before That’s the essence of our job, to make sure that you improve every day. If you’re not capable of thinking like that, you’re in the wrong job. He has accepted that and he has the right focus every day to improve.”
However, Wenger remained realistic when discussing the likelihood of Giroud beating the likes of Ian Wright and Thierry Henry in the goal scoring charts for the Gunners:
“[Beating second top scorer Ian Wright’s tally] will be difficult. Wright and Henry are quite high up there so there’s a long way to go. Olivier arrived a bit late as well but I wish him well and that he maintains this record first. After that, we’ll see how far he can go.”
Giroud will certainly be hoping to improve his tally for the gunners later this evening as they travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley at 17:30 GMT.
