Arsenal have today been linked with a £60m move for Juventus striker Alvaro Morata with the Turin club ready to cash in on the Spanish striker. The Mirror and Metro report that Real Madrid had asked for the £60 million clause to be put in, and Arsenal and Liverpool are waiting in the wings should Les Merengues not want to re-sign him.
The former Real Madrid man moved to Italy last summer and having had a successful season with Juve, he has caught the eye of both Liverpool and Arsenal in the process.
Madrid have a buy back option on the Spanish forward but reports suggest that they are willing to pass up on that offer.
It’s believed that Juventus have agreed Morata to join either one of Arsenal or Liverpool for a fee of around £60m.
It would be a huge fee for either Liverpool or Arsenal to conjure up considering they don’t have the best of track records for expensive signings.
Personally, I’d be all for it to see Alvaro Morata join Arsenal, a top player who has great potential and has proven he can score goals in different countries for big European sides at such a young age, but, is he worth £60m? In my view, I wouldn’t even pay even half of that for him, simply because he is young, raw and not yet at a level where you can say he has established himself regularly.
£60m is a massive sum of money and you don’t pay that sort of money unless you’re sure the player is world-class and is a solid investment/improvement to the team. In the long-term, Alvaro Morata could become one of Europe’s best strikers but right now I’m not sure whether he’d necessarily be an upgrade on Olivier Giroud or Danny Welbeck.
