Arsenal face a fight to land Inter Milan sensation Mauro Icardi as the Italian side prepare to extend the Argentine’s current contract.
According to reports in Italy, Inter Milan are working towards a new deal for the Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City target, the Argentinian’s current deal doesn’t expire until 2018 but the club’s board are hoping that a new deal for their star striker will warn off potential suitors.
According to Tutto Mercato, Inter are preparing to offer Icardi over £40,000-a-week in order to commit his future to the club.
The 22-year old is allegedly open to signing a new contract at the San Siro- but only if his wage demands are met.
Worthwhile Signing?
Debate over Icardi’s future will prolong with many top European clubs vying for his signature, but the question of whether signing him would be a worthwhile buy.
I think we have understood that he probably will be a top player in the future but I wouldn’t like to see his development hampered so a new contract at Inter Milan would be fantastic because he will play regular first-team football around some very good players technically, if he plays well as a regular first-team player, his value will go up so bigger clubs will vulture over him.
Right now, for Arsenal, I don’t think it would be a worthwhile signing, the Gunners have an abundance in attacking talent so although there would be fiercer competition I don’t think Arsenal would need to splash out unnecessarily, and he would struggle to hold down a regular spot in the first-team.
