Chuba Akpom’s contract is set to expire in the summer and Liverpool are one of a number of clubs said to be interested in acquiring the striker’s services.
According to reports in The Mirror, Arsenal have offered Akpom a three-and-a-half year contract at the Emirates Stadium.
There are a whole host of clubs thought to be interested, with Premier League interest coming from Liverpool Manchester City, Tottenham and Everton, while European offers have come in from Borussia Dortmund, Red Bull Salzburg, Feyenoord and FC Twente.
Akpom is said to want assurances over his first-team role at the club before signing a contract. Arsene Wenger has brought him off the bench three times already this month; stressing his desire to keep the man. Wenger allowing Campbell, Sanogo and Podolski all leave also shows the faith he has in Akpom.
The 19-year old striker has been at Arsenal since the age of six and the club rate him very highly. Him leaving for another club would be a sad sight for those who like to see academy players come through and have a chance at the highest level. It would be an even bigger kick in the teeth to see him succeed in the Premier League.
I hope we can wrap up a deal sooner rather than later. Akpom is a talent we need to keep hold of.
