Arsenal ended their Manchester hoodoo with a fantastic 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. It was a refreshingly mature performance from Arsene Wenger’s side – they stayed tight and countered all game. Santi Cazorla opened the scoring from the spot, before Olivier Giroud nodded home the second to seal the game. With that being said, here are my player ratings…
David Ospina – Another solid performance. He just hates conceding goals! Looks like Woj will have to wait a bit longer to get back into the side. 8/10.
Hector Bellerin – A performance years above the young wing-back’s age. He was disciplined, good on the ball, and stifled City well. 8/10.
Laurent Koscielny – Koscielny put in another Koscielny performance. We just don’t look like conceding many goals when he’s on form. 8.5/10.
Per Mertesacker – A clean sheet at the champions. You just can’t criticise the defence. Fantastic. Big Per did well and led by example at the back. 8/10.
Nacho Monreal – Looks really strong at the moment. If he continues playing like this Gibbs could find it hard to get back into the side. 8.5/10.
Francis Coquelin – What more can be said? This guy just gets better and better. Maybe we don’t need to sign a defensive midfielder this window. 9/10.
Aaron Ramsey – Ran his socks off and showed flashes of what he can do. A bit rusty in parts but he fought for the cause. 7.5/10.
Santi Cazorla – A quite extraordinary performance. He was everywhere. Tackling, passing, dribbling, scoring. You name it, he did it. His best performance in an Arsenal shirt. 10/10.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Played his part and worked hard. Not his best game but the team’s tactics meant it wasn’t going to be all about him. 7.5/10.
Alexis Sanchez – Covered every blade of grass and stifled the threat of Zabaleta. Not his usual self in front of goal but sacrificed that for the team. Another great performance. 8.5/10.
Olivier Giroud – Led from the front. Was rewarded for all of his hard work with a goal. In a big game. Fantastic! He just improves year after year. 8.5/10.
