With Petr Cech falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge his future has well and truly been blown up in the air. The Chelsea shot-stopper has been left to choose who his next club will be when he decides to leave Mourinho’s men which could be as soon as this month.
The Czech international is contracted until the summer of 2016 but his lack of first team starts and likely opportunities in the near future probably mean he won’t see out the whole duration of his proposed deal.
The 32-year-old’s options fall with Roma, who are after him this month (even though Mark Schwarzer joined Leicester and Mourinho insists Cech won’t be going anywhere), Liverpool and Arsenal – both of which are more likely to be interested in the summer months as they look to prepare for the 2015-16 season with a new squad.
The Telegraph are reporting that Petr Cech would NOT be blocked from moving to a Premier League rival if he specifically asked to leave. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has never been scared to allow his players to join rival clubs, as was proved by his willingness to sell Juan Mata to Manchester United and David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain.
Cech has given Chelsea almost 11 years of superb service, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League with the club, and will be guaranteed a respectful exit if and when the time comes.
The Telegraph are reporting that Arsene Wenger was already losing patience with Szczesny before the smoking incident this week and the Frenchman will now assess his goalkeeping options for the remainder of the season.
Colombia’s David Ospina started his second game for Arsenal since joining the club from Nice in the summer against Hull City and is likely to be given more chances to show that he can be the first-choice ‘keeper.
Wenger is a big admirer of Cech and attempted to sign him from Rennes before he joined Chelsea in 2004.
With only a year remaining on his Chelsea contract at the end of the season, Cech could be available for as little as £5m and would potentially be one of the bargains of the summer transfer window.
Do you think Arsenal should buy Cech and, if so, how much do you value him at for the end of the season?
