Christmas is around the corner and that means two things for football fans: Boxing Day football and the opening of the January transfer window. With injuries and a lack of bodies in defensive midfield and central defence, Arsenal are expected to be active in January. One Arsenal legend has had their say on who Arsenal should be looking at.
Speaking on Sportlobster.com, Ray Parlour questioned whether Winston Reid had the “quality we need”. The West Ham defender has been on good form this season and could be available cheap as he is without a contract beyond this season.
When it came on to who he thinks Arsenal should pursue, Parlour said Mats Hummels would be a good addition. The Romford Pele pointed to Hummels’ experience in big games and his recent World Cup success as defining factors.
In midfield, Parlour believes Morgan Schneiderlin would be ideal.
“I would go for Schneiderlin if you can get him. He’s at a good age. Lots of players are linked. Khedira would have been great. Players that have played in big games won’t be phased by anything. Schneiderlin hasn’t, but I can see him improving.”
The newspapers are suggesting Arsenal will have a budget of over £20m to sign the necessary players with this upcoming window. Whether they use that on one or multiple players remains to be seen.
We will keep you updated with the latest goings on at the Emirates ahead of what we hope is a busy January transfer window.
