Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos, according to Football London.
The 29-year-old is out of contract in 2019 and has been linked with several clubs, such as Manchester United and Chelsea.
However, Arsenal are believed to be in pole position to secure his signature and bring the Greek international to the Emirates.
Arsenal’s head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, is pushing for the deal and he is the man who brought Sokratis to Dortmund.

The prime targets for Arsenal this summer are rumoured to be a goalkeeper, centre-back and midfielder so this fits the bill as it would increase the standard of talent they have in their defence.
Signing from Werder Bremen in 2013, Sokratis has appeared nearly 200 times for BVB, and has also amassed 79 caps for Greece.
The deal will likely cost Arsenal in the region of £17.5 million but Sokratis will be worth every penny if he can showcase the performances that he’s made in the Bundesliga.
