Arsene Wenger has admitted that Arsenal don’t know the full extent of Mohamed Elneny’s injury as of yet, but he’s confirmed that the Egyptian will not be fit for Thursday’s Europa League semi-final clash with Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old hasn’t always been the most popular player at the Emirates but he’s been in good form in recent weeks, so his absence will be a blow, especially as Atleti have a very strong midfield.

The midfielder had to takes off on a stretcher during Arsenal’s weekend win over West Ham after he went over on his ankle during a challenge with Mark Noble.

The TV pictures did not look good and there was immediate concern from Egyptians about his availability for this summer’s World Cup, but Wenger says that the full extent of the damage won’t be known until Elneny has an x-ray.

As reported by the Independent, he said:

It’s an ankle problem that is very painful. Overall I believe that we have to wait until the X-ray to know a little more about it. But Thursday will be too soon for him.
