The midfielder earned a call-up to the senior squad after some good performances from Arsenal but has been forced to miss both England matches against Netherlands and Italy after picking up an injury in training last week.

Wilshere has played a key role for Arsenal so far this season, so the injury couldn’t come at a worse time for the 26-year-old. The midfielder still has hope of going to this summer’s World Cup in Russia, though.
It was decided by England that they will not take the risk on Wilshere for Tuesday’s friendly with Italy, with some big games for Arsenal to come in the coming months for Wilshere as he looks to keep up his fine form.
The Gunners face Stoke City on Sunday at the Emirates; a match Southgate expects the midfielder to feature in.
