Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck will face no further punishment after the forward was accused of diving to win a penalty against AC Milan in the Europa League.
The Mirror report that UEFA have confirmed Welbeck will not face retrospective action and will not serve a ban of any kind, making him available for the quarter-final first leg at home to Russian side CSKA Moscow.
Despite facing no action from UEFA, Welbeck has seen a lot of criticism for the ease in which he fell down to earn that penalty.
Prior to this game, Welbeck had scored just five goals for Arsenal this season in all competitions, so the forward certainly hasn’t been a stranger to criticism.
Brian McClair, Welbeck’s former mentor from his time at Manchester United took to Twitter to mock the player and manager Arsene Wenger:
Wenger appears to be right about English players when he declared recently that they are the ‘new masters of diving.’
Welbeck, 27, now has to bounce back, and with some effect. Once deemed a great young talent, he hasn’t reached double figures in goals scored for his club since representing Manchester United in the 2013/14 season.
