Arsenal will overhaul their midfield in the summer with a number of players potentially leaving the club, and they have reportedly received a major boost in their pursuit of one of their top targets.

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, as cited by talkSPORT, La Liga giants Barcelona have now ended their interest in highly-rated Schalke creative midfield Max Meyer, who is understood to be Arsenal’s top midfield target in the summer.

Meyer is set to become a free agent when his contract with the Bundesliga club expires in June and has also been linked with Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Tottenham, but Barcelona were unquestionably the biggest club linked with his signature and news of them ending their interest in the player will come as great news for Arsenal.

Arsenal are expected to add a number of midfielders to their squad this summer with both Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla out of contract after this season.

Wilshere has an offer on the table from the Gunners but is looking for a better deal and may move elsewhere, with Juventus and Everton among suitors, while Arsenal to possess the option to extend Cazorla’s contract by an extra year, something they may do for the Spaniard who has missed most of the last two seasons with a severe achilles injury.

Should Arsenal sign Jack Wilshere to a new contract?
