Arsenal looking to snap up promising Brazilian

Arsenal are reportedly ready to try and sign Corinthians youngster Maycon as they look to have failed in their bid for Malcom, according to Football London.

The Gunners look to rejuvenate their central midfield as they may fail to qualify for the Champions League for the second consecutive season.

With Arsenal sitting 13 points behind fourth-placed and North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, winning the Europa League looks like their biggest chance of entering the Champions League, as Manchester United did last season.

One central midfield target is 20-year-old target Maycon from Brazilian club Corinthians, who could be quite cheap and is also keen on a move to European football.

Corinthians won the Brazilian Serie A in 2017, as they play their league on a calendar year term basis, unlike in Europe. Maycon was an influential part of that team who finished 9 points ahead of nearest rivals Palmeiras.

The Serie A season for 2018 has not started yet, but in January, Maycon reportedly was keen on a move to Shakhtar Donetsk. However, this move fell through, although it has not put him off a move to Europe.

Arsenal may be able to grab him in the summer halfway through the Brazilian domestic season, for a mere £9m with the clause that he will be loaned back to Corinthians for the rest of the 2018 season.

Napoli also appear keen, but Arsenal have sent scouts to Brazil to see him and have watched him regularly, and so appear more keen. So it is possible that Maycon may be in the red of Arsenal next season.
