Arsenal will face competition from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid for Schalke 04 playmaker Max Meyer in the summer, according to reports.
The Gunners have long been linked with a move for the German international, who has once again caught the eye with some impressive performances this season.
Schalke do want to keep hold of Meyer but are now resigned to losing him. His contract expires at the end of the season and other clubs will be able to sign the player on a free transfer.

This has understandably piqued Arsenal’s interest, but they will not be alone in their pursuit of Meyer. German news outlet Bild, as reported by talkSPORT, claim that Diego Simeone’s Atletico side are hot on the trail of the midfielder.
It’s stated that Barcelona and AC Milan are also monitoring Meyer’s situation, with Bayern Munich also attentive towards the player’s availability.
Arsenal have found themselves to be some way off their competitors in the top six of the Premier League and will be determined to stake their claim next season. In doing so, they may need to recruit the likes of Meyer to challenge once again.
